James S. Segarra, CPA, is the Firm’s Managing Partner, a Partner in the Accounting & Auditing Department, and Director of Human Resources.  Jim graduated (Magna Cum Laude) from Canisius College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  His experience and responsibilities include overseeing client engagements and client relationship development and management. He has extensive experience in the not-for-profit, manufacturing, financial services, food services, residential construction, governmental and real estate industries.  Jim has approximately 19 years of public accounting experience, six of which were with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.  Jim previously served as the acting CFO for a large local homebuilder/real estate developer and a multi-million dollar manufacturer of wood related products.  Jim also has primary accounting and auditing responsibilities for the Firm’s not-for-profit clients.

In addition, Jim has assisted many clients in developing business plans, long-term strategic plans, cash management techniques and strategies, pricing models for manufactured products, obtaining external financing with local financial institutions and private development corporations, and developing annual budgets.  He has also assisted in providing management recommendations regarding the adequacy of existing accounting and reporting procedures for executive-level decision making, opportunities for improving or standardizing operations, and various internal control structures.  Jim has also lead due diligence procedures for many clients while working in the divestiture and acquisition arena. 

Jim’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”), New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (“NYSSCPA”), and faculty membership in the Business Department of Hilbert College.  Jim has also earned the Certificate of Educational Achievement of Business Valuation from the AICPA.

Jim is involved in the Western New York community as well, serving as the Vice Chairman and Executive Committee member on the Board of Trustees for the Western New York/Pennsylvania Multiple Sclerosis Society.  He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries and as a member of various Advisory Boards for selected area businesses.
