Jim Segarra Receives Canisius College Award
James S. Segarra, CPA '88 and Managing Partner of Tronconi Segarra & Associates LLP, received the 2013 Dr. Joseph R. Coppola '40 Award as an Outstanding Graduate of the Canisius College Accounting Department on April 25th. This award is presented annually to one exceptional Canisius College Accounting Department graduate who has demonstrated significant leadership and success within the profession and the community.
Jim was presented with the award at the Canisius College 57th annual accounting banquet at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. A scholarship grant in Jim and his wife, Ann's ('88) name was awarded at the banquet to a deserving Canisius College accounting student for the 2013-2014 academic year. In addition, three scholarship grants bearing the Firm’s name were also awarded.
Upon assuming the managing partner role in 2005, Jim was instrumental in the development and execution of a growth strategy that enabled the Firm to nearly triple in size, both organically and through acquisition. This significant growth has enabled the Firm to offer its clients a greater breadth and depth of services while maintaining the highest level of quality and client service. Under Jim’s leadership, the Firm has been recognized with several awards, including a national finalist award for Best Overall Company Under 100 Employees from the American Business Awards, Small Business of the Year Award and Most Poised for Growth Award from the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, and multi-year finalist for Business First’s Best Places to Work Award. In 2005, Jim was honored as a member of the Business First “40 Under Forty” class.
Prior to joining Tronconi Segarra & Associates as a partner in 1995, Jim held various positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in the Financial Services Industry Practice of the firm.
As a certified public accountant licensed in the State of New York, Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He is a member of the Canisius College Council on Accountancy, a former adjunct professor of accounting at Hilbert College, and an advisory board member for various businesses throughout the area.
Jim is a member of the Board of Directors of the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation and serves on the Finance and Audit Committees of Kaleida Health. Previously, Jim held various Board and Executive Committee positions with the Western New York/Pennsylvania Multiple Sclerosis Society for over 11 years. He also served as a Board member for the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, Goodwill Industries of Western New York, Artpark & Company and Fox Valley Country Club where he was a founding member of the Fox Valley Business Club.
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York, Jim and Ann currently reside in Williamsville with their two children.
